A rut by definition is: a habit or pattern of behavior that has become dull and unproductive but is hard to change. One of the most dangerous places to be in your life is in a rut, where you do the same thing over and over but refuse to make the needed change. In A.W. Tozer’s book “Rut, Rot or Revival” he says the most “treacherous enemy facing the church of Jesus Christ today is the dictatorship of the routine, when the routine becomes ‘lord’ in the life of the church.”
Is your personal life predictable and routine? Be careful not to do things just because that is what you always do.
In your church, is the service predictable? What could you change to still hold true to the Gospel but make the experience different?
When everything is predictable people stop expecting anything unusual from God and it is the beginning of a rut.
