I love Thanksgiving, mostly for the food. Here is a free little reminder for those of you that will feel guilty or bloated Thursday night: The Bible talks way more about feasting and banquets then it does about fasting. In fact in Leviticus 3:16 it says, “…All the fat belongs to the Lord.” You are welcome. Yes I know that is grossly out of context but is also very funny and we should laugh more.
Thanksgiving always gets me thinking about people that God has put in my life. I think this is a habit that we do not do often enough. There are people in my life that I have no doubt God put there to hold me, love on me, teach me more of Who He is, give me guidance and at some points even rebuild me with hope. One of my favorite books is called Soul Cravings, it’s by a guy named Erwin McManus. It’s a go to book for me, I have read and re-read it several times. There is a part of the book where Erwin says, “Maybe it is possible to save the world one person at a time. At the very least, you will save yourself.” What if God has put you here to pour life into the people around you? The people around you are not accidental, they are around you for a reason. What if you spent this week showing them Jesus? Your kindness, love, forgiveness might just change their lives. Might just change yours as well. Take a minute this Thanksgiving and text or email or write a real letter with real stamps or maybe make a phone call and tell someone thank you for being in your life. Spend some time this week thanking Jesus for loving you enough to put those people around you. Happy Thanksgiving!!
If you would like to get Erwin’s book (I highly recommend it, would even make a great Christmas present) you can get it here at Soul Cravings
